April 14th 2012(Legacy) CodeRetreat is a day-long, intensive practice event focused on the fundamentals of software development and design.
The unique CodeRetreat format (which eliminates the pressure of 'getting things done' and focuses on practicing basic principles of good design) has proven to be a highly effective (and fun) means of skill improvement.
On April 14th, another instance of CodeRetreat this time a Legacy CodeRetreat will be held in the Berlin offices of Crealytics. Afterwards, stick around and we'll all go out to dinner or for a few drinks. It's going to be a lot of fun!
Registration will open on Monday, April 2nd, 2012. You can register here.
You only need to bring a laptop with the development tools you require to write code using your chosen programming languages. A continental breakfast and lunch will be provided.
Event is sponsored by
* Laptop should be ready for development, with everything you need installed (IDE, unit testing framework). You will need git, too. Consider bringing an external keyboard.
A legacy CodeRetreat is similar to a regular CodeRetreat as we had last time.
We work in pairs, we do TDD and we run 6 sessions á 45 minutes with different constrains but instead of starting each
time form scratch we have an existing code base to work with.
The goal is to learn how to work with legacy code. We practice how to bring code under test and how to refactor it.
